Performances will begin Sept. 18 with an official opening Sept. 23. The limited engagement will run through Oct. 11.
The cast will comprise Debbie Chazen (TV's "Tittytittybangbang," Wicked Stepmother in the Old Vic's Cinderella), Beatie Edney (the film "Highlander," the TV biopic "Fantabuloza," Dead Funny and Summer Begins), Alex Lowe (TV roles in "Peep Show," "The Peter Kay Project," "French and Suanders"), Esther Coles and Lu Corfield.
The play, created entirely from edited conversations recorded inside a brothel, is set in a brothel by the sea where mature women specialize in offering "the girlfriend experience," a surprisingly caring and sympathetic service. But can they ever have loving relationships outside work and enjoy being girlfriends themselves? An earlier version of the piece was first presented as an experimental reading as part of the Royal Court's Rough Cuts season in 2007.
The play is directed by Joe Hill-Gibbins, who was associate director at the Young Vic, where he has directed The Fever and A Respectable Wedding. He also directed The Family Plays, One With the Oven and A Girl in a Car With a Man at the Royal Court.
