News Casting Announced for Shotgun Players' Assassins in California Shotgun Players will present Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman's Tony Award-winning musical Assassins beginning Sept. 26, prior to an official opening Oct. 5, in Berkeley, CA.

Susannah Martin will direct a cast that includes Aleph Ayin as Giuseppe Zangara, Cody Metzger as Squeaky Fromme, Dan Saski as Leon Czolgosz, Danny Cozart as John Hinckley, Galen Murphy-Hoffman as John Wilkes Booth, Jeff Garrett as Proprietor, Kevin Singer as Balladeer/Oswald, Rebecca Castelli as Sara Jane Moore, Ryan Drummond as Sam Byck, Steven Hess as Charles Guiteau and John Lewis as the Hinckley understudy. Performance will continue through Oct. 28. Here's how Shotgun describes Assassins: "Politics can make anyone feel a little angry. Sondheim lays bare the stories of our nine presidential assassins – drawing back the curtain on a group of Americans that have taken their frustrated feelings too far. Whether unheard, unseen, slighted or wronged, these men and women took action on a government they felt was betraying the people. Their guns and their justifications (set to music!) are just the balm for an election season that is sure to rock the boat."

Other members of the creative team include musical director David Möschler, assistant director Lynda Bachman, choreographer Erika Chong Shuch, set designer Nina Ball, costume designer Christine Crook, lighting designer Gabe Maxon, sound designer Teddy Hulsker, dramaturg Dori Jacob, properties designer Jacqueline Scott and production stage manager Hannah Zahner-Isenberg.

Shotgun Players is located at 1901 Ashby Avenue in Berkeley, CA. For more information and tickets, visit ShotgunPlayers.org.
