News Casting Announced for Workshop Production of Toulouse: A New Musical A workshop of Toulouse: A New Musical, about French painter Henri de Toulouse Lautrec and the Moulin Rouge, is currently taking place in Chicago with presentations scheduled for Aug. 29-31.

The new musical has a score composed by Josh Walker, with a book by John David Nelson and lyrics by both Walker and Nelson.

The cast includes composer Walker as Lautrec with Megan Buckley, Kristine Burdi, Nathan Carroll, Zachary Drane, Meredith Freyre, Spencer Gartner, Keith Green, Kevin Grubb, Megan Householter, Kyle Hustedt, Stephanie Stockstill, Derek Rienzi Van Tassel, Lynne Jordan, Rachel Melius and Justin Vidovic.

The musical, according to press notes, "explores the struggle between two class systems, the bourgeoisie and the bohemian, and the singular person and place that ultimately brought the two worlds together: Toulouse Lautrec and the Moulin Rouge. New ties are created and old bonds must be broken when both artists and patrons are swept into a world of chaotic change."

The workshop, produced by JDN + JDW Musicals, features direction by Derek Rienzi Van Tassel, choreography and dramaturgy by Joe Barros and musical direction by Mark Wurzelbacher.

The lighting is designed by Clair Chrzan with scenic design by David Geinosky and costumes, make-up and hair design by Roger Lee Harris. Brayden Kendziora is the stage manager. Orchestrations are by Jordon Ross Weinhold. Presentations will take place at The Athenaeum Theatre (2936 N. Southport Avenue, Studio 3) in Chicago Aug. 29-30 at 7:30 PM and Aug. 31 at 5 PM.
