News Casting Announced for York's Mary Lincoln Musical Complete casting has been announced for Asylum: The Strange Case of Mary Lincoln, the final offering of the York Theatre Company's 2005-2006 season.

Carolann Page will star in the title role of the new musical, which will play the York Sept. 5-Oct. 1 with an official opening Sept. 14. She will be joined onstage by Bertilla Baker, Edwin Cahill, John Jellison, Joy Lynn Matthews and Daniel Spiotta. Fabrizio Melano will direct with musical direction by Bob Goldstone.

The creative team also includes James Morgan (set design), Sarah Conly (costume design) and Chris Robinson (lighting design).

"Ten years after the assassination of her husband and the death of three of her sons," reads press notes for the musical, "Mary Todd Lincoln battles for her freedom as she is judged insane and committed to an asylum by her only living son and some of Lincoln's former political allies. Witness her struggle to survive, as she fights to keep alive the eternal love that she and Lincoln shared."

Asylum: The Strange Case of Mary Lincoln features a book by June Bingham and a score by Carmel Owen. Barbara Walsh starred in a workshop version of the musical in 2001 for the Women's Project. The York also presented the musical as part of its Developmental Reading Series.
