News   Casting Complete for North Shore Music Theatre’s Smokey Joe’s Café
Casting is now complete for the upcoming production of Smokey Joe’s Café that will play the North Shore Music Theatre June 3-22.

The production of the musical revue at the Massachusetts Theatre will feature a cast of eleven, nine performers and two swings. The final actor to join the company is Colleen Hawks, who starred in the Off-Broadway production of The Wild Party. Hawks joins the previously announced Brad Anderson (Fosse; Kiss, Me Kate), Dwayne Clark (Smokey Joe’s Cafe), Michael Demby-Cain (Starlight Express, Victor/Victoria), Cartice Joseph (whose role in Broadway’s Rent was recently filled by “American Idol” star Frenchie Davis), Deb Lyons (Smokey Joe’s Café), Clifton Oliver (The Lion King), Devon Richards (Jesus Christ Superstar, The Life) and Deborah Walton (Cooking at the Cookery). Caissie Levy and Will Ray will serve as swings.

Stafford Arima — associate director for Broadway’s Seussical and A Class Act — will helm the North Shore Smokey Joe’s Café.

The creative team also features Patricia Wilcox (choreography), Lynn Shankel (music direction), Bill Stabile (scenic design), Martin Vreeland (lighting design), Jay Woods (costume design), Gererd Kelly (wig design) and John Stone (sound design).

Smokey Joe’s Café is a tribute to the rock-and-roll tunes of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, who wrote for such legends as Elvis, Dion, the Coasters and the Drifters. Smokey Joe’s played 2,036 performances on Broadway and boasted such hits as “Hound Dog,” “On Broadway,” “Love Potion #9,” “Poison Ivy” and "Yakety Yak.”

The new season will also include Cats, July 8-Aug. 3; Pacific Overtures, Aug. 26 Sept. 14; Memphis, Sept. 23-Oct. 12; West Side Story, Oct. 28-Nov. 23; and A Christmas Carol, Dec. 5-21.
