Janney will find herself in esteemed company for the production, with a cast that includes Tony Award winner Elizabeth Franz, Jessica Hecht, John Benjamin Hickey and Mamie Gummer as well as Rufus Collins, Brian Kerwin, Cynthia Mace, Rama C. Marshall, Eric Murdoch, Brooke Parks and Tony winner Maryann Plunkett.
The Autumn Garden, according to press notes, is "set in a summer resort on the Gulf of Mexico in 1949 [and] follows seven friends confronting middle age, assessing the choices they have made and the lives they have led and clinging to the hope that they will once more be at peace. The Autumn Garden is searing, savagely funny proof that there is really no revolt against the past, and offers perhaps Hellman's most perceptive comment on the difficulties of 'the great art of living together.'"
David Jones will direct, with a creative team including set design by Thomas Lynch, costume design by Ilona Somogyi, lighting design by David Weiner and sound design by John Gromada.
The Autumn Garden runs Aug. 15–26 as part of the Williamstown Theatre Festival. The performance will take place at '62 Center for Theatre and Dance of Williams College, located 1000 Main Street (Route 2) in Williamstown, MA.
Tickets are available by logging on to wtfestival.org, by calling (413) 597-3400 or by visiting the Festival box office.
