Presented by Ars Nova and the Underwood Theater, the 7 PM reading will feature the talents of Stephanie Beatriz, Alexis Camins, Gilbert Cruz, Joaquin Torres and Brigette Viellieu-Davis. Peter Sampieri directs.
Yemaya's Belly, according to production notes, is a "magical coming of-age story about one boy’s journey across the 'middle passage,' and the tragedies that catapult him into manhood."
Playwright Quiara Hudes has also written The Adventures of Barrio Grrrl!, Holy Broth and Coconut Therapy, and she is currently developing her new play Elliot, A Soldier's Fugue. She is the recipient of The Clauder Prize, the Paula Vogel Award in Playwriting, the KCACTF Latina Playwriting Award, the Weston Prize and The International Women’s Playwriting Festival.
