The Obie-winning Caught in the Act Festival is being presented by the Threshold Theatre Company under the artistic co-direction of Pamela Billig and Eugene Brogyanyi. The annual collection of foreign one acts, performed in English translation, runs through Oct. 3 at the HERE Theatre Complex in SoHo.

Producers say the festival of one acts represent nine decades of the 20th century and offers a unique insight into the human condition at the end of the millennium.

Last year, Caught in the Act received an OBIE for its "unique contribution" to theatre in New York.

This year's program includes Danish playwright Kaj Nissen's Fair Kirsten, French playwrights Pierre-Henri Cami's The Orphans Dowry, and Georges Ribemont-Dessaignes' The Mute Canary, Hungarian playwright Ferenc Molnar's Still Life, Cuban playwright Julio Matas's Ladies at Play, and Bacchanalia by Austrian playwright Arthur Schnitzler, whose work inspired The Blue Room and Stanley Kubrick's last film, "Eyes Wide Shut." Italian playwright Dario Fo's The Open Couple will be back by popular demand, and a special collection, European Cabaret: Several Pieces will feature works from Austria, Hungary, Poland and Germany that were written between 1901 and 1946.

Several distinguished Broadway actors are doing directorial duty in the festival. Thus far, the participating directors include Tony-nominated Gabriel Barre, John Christopher Jones, OBIE-winner Daniel Gerroll and Tony-winner Michael Rupert. The HERE Theater Complex is located at 145 Sixth Avenue, one block south of Spring Street. Performances are scheduled around three programs -- A, B and C, and run Tue.-Thur. at 8 PM, Fri.-Sat. at 8 PM and 10 PM, and Sun. at 3 PM and 6 PM.
