The show, and the interview, covered Horne’s career, from its beginnings in Harlem’s Cotton Club to her struggle to find a place in Hollywood movie musicals in the 1940s. Horne received a special Tony Award for The Lady and Her Music, an additional nomination for Jamaica, and also appeared on Broadway in Dance With Your Gods and Lew Leslie’s Blackbirds of 1939. She died May 9 at the age of 92.
