Chaplin will officially open Sept. 10.  (The Barrymore Theatre is the current home of Death of a Salesman, which concludes its limited engagement June 2.)

Casting will be announced at a later time.

Chaplin has a score by Christopher Curtis and book by Curtis and three-time Tony Award winner Thomas Meehan (Annie, The Producers, Hairspray). Carlyle (Follies, Finian’s Rainbow; Hugh Jackman, Back on Broadway) is director and choreographer.

Initially billed as Becoming Chaplin, the creative team has streamlined the title of the musical that was first presented under the name Limelight in a full production at the La Jolla Playhouse in 2010.

The musical received a January workshop in New York City. At that time producers Bob and Mindy Rich, Roy Gabay, and John and Claire Caudwell announced plans to bring the musical to Broadway during the 2012-13 season. Here's how the musical is billed: "From the slums of London to the heights of Hollywood, is the showbiz Broadway musical about the silent film legend the world couldn’t stop talking about - Charlie Chaplin. The brand new 22-person musical reveals the man behind the legend, the undeniable genius that forever changed the way America went to the movies."

This Broadway-bound show is not related to another Chaplin-inspired musical, also known as Chaplin, an American-penned show first crafted in the 1980s and getting its London premiere this summer by the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Martin Connor (West End's Iolanthe) will direct and Bill Deamer (Top Hat, London's revised Love Never Dies) will choreograph the music-hall-style biographical musical, which has a book by Ernest Kinoy (Bajour, Golden Rainbow, Emmy winner for "Roots"), lyrics by Lee Goldsmith (Shine!) and music by composer Roger Anderson (Shine!).
