The play was commissioned by MTC, the respected not for-profit that presents on and Off-Broadway, and had a summer reading also directed by Pulitzer Prize-winner Auburn (Proof). The reading is one of the occasional events related to MTC's Play Development Council, a group interested in nurturing and following the progress of new works. Clouds Hill is an MTC commission made possible by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.

Playwright Evered is a 1991 Yale School of Drama graduate whose Wilderness of Mirrors was presented by George Street Playhouse.

The new play takes on a Midwestern college campus and focuses on two professors in contact with a Middle Eastern student whose activities are viewed as suspicious by one of the professors.

The Dec. 1 reading includes Charles Daniel Sandoval as the student and David Harbour and Mary Stuart Masterson as the professors.
