News "Charlie Wilson's War," Film by Farnsworth Scribe Sorkin, Moves Up Opening Universal Pictures has bumped up the release of Aaron Sorkin's new film, "Charlie Wilson's War."

Originally slated for a Dec. 25 release, the film will now hit the big screen four days earlier on Dec. 21. Sorkin is currently represented on Broadway with The Farnsworth Invention, which officially opened Dec. 3.

"We saw an opportunity to advance the release of this film and are taking advantage of that," said Universal Pictures' marketing and distribution president Adam Fogelson in an announcement. "We've seen how strongly 'Charlie Wilson's War' plays and can't wait to get it in front of audiences everywhere."

Penned by Sorkin and directed by Mike Nichols (Spamalot, The Graduate), "Charlie Wilson's War" stars Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Amy Adams ("Enchanted") and Ned Beatty (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof) also appear in the film.

Based on George Crile's best-selling book, the film "tells the outrageous true story of how one congressman who loved a good time, one Houston socialite who loved a good cause and one CIA agent who loved a good fight conspired to bring about the largest covert operation in history."
