She is most notably remembered for originating the role of Maria in Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story. She has also performed on Broadway in Nightlife, Saratoga, Subways Are For Sleeping, I Do! I Do!, and Kiss of the Spider. Fans of General Hospital will remember Ms. Lawrence as the loving Italian matriarch, Angela Echert. She has guest starred on Matt Houston, Tequila and Bonnetti, Murder, She Wrote and The Commish with a recurring character on the highly acclaimed Murder One and most recently in a leading role in Touched By An Angel. Her autobiography "Carol Lawrence, The Backstage Story" was published by McGraw-Hill. Her new book is a tribute to her mother's culinary genius, entitle, "I Remember Pasta" -- already in it's second printing.
