Goodspeed Musicals has revealed its 2024 season, which will include a new production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's South Pacific directed by Chay Yew (Kristina Wong, Sweatshop Overlord).

The upcoming run will be the Pulitzer-winning musical's first staging at the Connecticut Theatre, with performances running June 14–August 11, 2024. Adapted from James A. Michener's also Pulitzer-winning novel Tales of the South Pacific, the musical theatre classic contains such favorites as "Some Enchanted Evening," "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair," "Bali Hai," and "You've Got to Be Carefully Taught."

The season will open with Rupert HolmesThe Mystery of Edwin Drood, running April 5–June 2, 2024. Goodspeed regular Rob Ruggiero will direct the musical murder mystery, based on Charles Dickens' unfinished novel of the same name. The musical adaptation, which opened on Broadway in 1985 and was revived in 2012, invites the audience to vote on the resolution of the plot, with a number of different endings possible for each performance.

Moving forward to the fall, Goodspeed will give an American premiere to Maggie, a new musical about a Scottish mother's unbreakable love for her sons. The work features a book and lyrics by Johnny Reid and Matt Murray, with Reid and Murray joining with Bob Foster for the music. Performances will run August 23–October 20, 2024, with Mary Francis Moore at the helm. The musical played a world premiere run at Hamilton, Ontario's Theatre Aquarius and The Charlottetown Festival earlier this year. A studio cast album is available on streaming platforms.

The season will close with Benj Pasek, Justin Paul, and Joseph Robinette's A Christmas Story, The Musical, running November 1–December 29, 2024. The musical is based on the popular film of the same name, written by Jean Shepherd, Leigh Brown, and Bob Clark, along with Shepherd's In God We Trust: All Others Pay Cash.
