Chicago's Lookingglass Theatre Company has announced complete casting for the world premiere production of Lucy and Charlie’s Honeymoon, a new musical by Lookingglass Artistic Associate Matthew C. Yee. Beginning performances May 24, Lucy and Charlie's Honeymoon will run through July 16.
Yee, who recently made his Broadway debut in the musical adaptation of Almost Famous, composed the music for the piece, as well as writing the book for the original musical, which follows newlyweds Lucy and Charlie as they decide to embrace the dark side of the American dream while driving across the country.
The world premiere, as directed by Amanda Dehnert, will star Yee as Charlie, Aurora Adachi-Winter as Lucy, Wai Ching Ho as Grandma, Daniel Lee Smith as Jeff, Matt Bittner as Gabriel, Doug Pawlik as Martin, Rammel Chan as Peter, Harmony Zhang as Bao, and Mary Williamson as Feinberg.
In celebration of the casting, Lucy and Charlie's Honeymoon released the audio of one of the show's country-inspired songs, "Honeymoon."
“We can't wait for audiences to get swept up in this story,” said Lookingglass artistic director Heidi Stillman. “It's so darkly funny, provocative and timely, and we just know audiences will be tapping their toes as this talented cast plays instruments, sings, and acts up a storm onstage at Lookingglass!”
The creative team for Lucy and Charlie's Honeymoon will include scenic designer Yu Shibagaki, lighting designer Marcella Barbeau, costume designer Sully Ratke, sound designer Andre Pluess, and props supervisor Amanda Herrman. Katrina Herrmann and Alexis Wiley will serve as stage managers.
