The Lookingglass Theatre Company premieres its adaption of Italo Calvino's novel The Baron in the Trees, May 25-June 27, closing the company's 1998-99 season at the Theatre Building. Founding Lookingglass member Larry DiStasti (The Third Voyage) directs.

Ensemble members DiStasti and Heidi Stillman adapted the Calvino tale set on the coast of Italy in the 18th Century. Baron is the story of Cosimo, a young baron who quarrels with his family and decides to live the rest of his life in the trees.

The challenge of depicting such an airborne life has been met by circus veteran Sylvia Hernandez-DiStasti, who developed the aerial choreography for the piece at the Actor's Gymnasium. Her specially-trained cast features Lookingglass ensemble members Christine Dunford, Stillman and Andrew White, along with Adrian Danzig Joe Dempsey, Tony Hernandez, Chuck Stubbings, Rebecca Tennison and Gary Wingert.

Designing the sets and costumes are Dan Ostling and Mara Blumenfeld. Puppets were co-created by Jon Musial and Micahel Montenegro. Heather Gilbert designed the lighting, with Andre Pluess and Ben Sussman providing the sound design. Willy Schwarz composed the score.

Tickets are $25-$22 and available by calling the box office at (773) 327-5252. The Theater Building is located at 1225 W. Belmont. -- By Christine Ehren
