CHICAGO -- Beginning in May 1998, Prop Theatre, a venturesome local company, will join forces with the National Playwrights Conference (NPC) at Connecticut's Eugene O'Neill Theatre Center. The goal: to establish an annual Midwest New Plays Festival and Workshop. The Prop Theatre Group, which is to join five other innovative troupes affiliated with the O'Neill Center, will benefit from the advice and guidance of senior O'Neill Center leaders, including founder George White and long-time artistic director Lloyd Richards. It's hoped that Heartland authors will receive the same sort of encouragement and exposure that other playwrights have long enjoyed through their association with the O'Neill Center.
