CHICAGO -- The "poetry slam," a popular Chicago competition where versifiers face off before a fickle audience, has now given birth to the "play slam." Now in its second year as a fundraiser for the Victory Gardens Theatre, the event on Feb. 22 features 12 of the theatre's past and present playwrights, including screenwriter John Logan and veteran dramatists Jeffrey Sweet, Douglas Post and Lonnie Carter.
The brave writers will read excerpts from some of their most popular plays and see whether they get slammed or dunked.
