Kudisch and Esparza, according to a production spokesperson, provide the pre-recorded dialogue track to a 1945 World War II film that's featured in the musical's second act. Yank!, which plays Theatre Row's Beckett Theatre, has sold out its initial six-performance run and has added two additional shows: Sept. 16 at 1 PM and Sept. 21 at 8 PM.
Yank! — described as "a World War II buddy movie-of-a-musical" — features book and lyrics by David Zellnik and music by Joseph Zellnik. Igor Goldin directs a cast that comprises Ken Alan as Dream Stu, Jeffrey J. Bateman as Professor, Jeffry Denman as Artie, Joey Dudding as Rotelli, Julie Foldesi as The Women, Ivan Hernandez as Mitch, Daniel Frank Kelley as Tennessee, Doug Kreeger as Stu, James Patterson as Sarge and Tally Sessions as Czechowski.
The musical, according to production notes, "tells the story of Stu, a war reporter, and Mitch, an army private, who fall in love in Basic Training and then meet again when Stu is on assignment reporting on Mitch’s outfit."
The creative team for Yank! also includes Chase Brock (choreography), Rob Berman (musical direction), Ray Klausen (set consultant), Wade Laboissoniere (costume design) and Ken Lapham (lighting design).
