"Jamie deRoy & friends," the cable television variety program dedicated to broadening the cabaret audience, will offer a special program on Sept. 24 to honor the memory of Roy Kral, the jazz musician who died in August.
DeRoy's Sept. 24 broadcast will feature excerpts from the MAC/ASCAP Summer Songwriters Showcase. Broadway star Christiane Noll, who will be seen Off-Broadway this fall in Call the Children Home, will perform a song by Brian Feinstein and Diana Hansen-Young. Other offerings include Kirk McDonald, who will sing a tune by Nathan Tysen and Chris Miller; Modern Man, the group who will perform a song written by David Buskin, Rob Carlson and George Wurzbach; and Kirby Tepper and Stefano, who will both sing their own compositions.
Directed by Barry Kleinbort, "Jamie deRoy & friends" will air in the metropolitan area on Time Warner cable channel 67 and RCN channel 110. Broadcast time is 8 PM.
Jamie deRoy, a stand-up comic, singer and hostess-with-the-mostess, has been a longtime fixture on the New York cabaret scene. Her most recent CD, "Jamie deRoy & friends — Volume 3: 'Tis the Season," was released in 2001 by Harbinger Records.
