The New York Post reports that Ebersole, who won her Tonys for her performances in 42nd Street and Grey Gardens, was cast as Bette Davis with Maxwell (Tony nominee for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Coram Boy, Lend Me a Tenor, The Royal Family) as Joan Crawford.

Tony winner Doug Hughes (Doubt) directed the staged reading, which is based on the feud between the two actresses that erupted on the set of "Hush... Hush Sweet Charlotte," which was supposed to be the follow-up to 1962's surprise hit "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?"

Crawford left "Hush" during filming; she was eventually replaced by Olivia de Havilland.

No plans for a Broadway production have been announced.
