News Christmas in New York Concert to Feature Olivier Winner Maria Friedman Christmas in New York, the annual celebration of classic carols and seasonal showstoppers that includes contemporary interpretations of well-known seasonal songs and brand-new compositions by both British and American musical theatre composers, returns for the third year Dec. 7 at the Lyric Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue.

Maria Friedman

The company will be led by West End and Broadway leading lady Maria Friedman. The singing actress was most recently on the London stage when she did a new version of her solo, Olivier-Award winning concert Maria Friedman – By Special Arrangement at the Menier Chocolate Factory. Prior to that she created the role of Marian in the original London and Broadway productions of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Woman in White. Her other Olivier Award-winning performances were in Ragtime and Passion, and other London stage credits include Sunday in the Park with George, Ghetto and Lady in the Dark at the National Theatre, Blues in the Night, April in Paris and The Witches of Eastwick in the West End. She can also be seen as the Narrator in the film video of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Friedman will be joined in the holiday concert by Julie Atherton (original London company of Avenue Q in which she played Kate Monster and Lucy, and returns to those roles Dec. 1), Wicked's Oliver Tompsett and Ashleigh Gray, Spamalot's Michael Xavier and a full supporting cast including Adrian Hansel, Zoe Rainey, Richard Reynard and Lorna Want. Show time is 7:30 PM.

The director is Rebecca Giacopazzi, and the musical director is David Randall.
