The 6 PM discussion will be held in the lobby of the Vivian Beaumont Theater. It is free and open to the public. Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike premiered at the McCarter Theatre Center in September. It will officially open Off-Broadway Nov. 12.
LCT will also offer a Nov. 29 Platform event with the Tony-winning director Bartlett Sher and Walt Odets (son of playwright Clifford Odets) to discuss the upcoming revival of Golden Boy.
The cast of Durang's latest play boasts three-time Academy Award nominee Sigourney Weaver, Tony Award winner David Hyde Pierce, Obie Award winner Kristine Nielsen, Genevieve Angelson, Shalita Grant and Billy Magnussen.
According to LCT, "Durang takes characters and themes from Chekhov, pours them into a blender and mixes them up; the result is his latest play set in present day Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Vanya (Pierce) and his stepsister Sonia (Nielsen) have lived their entire lives in their family's farmhouse. While they stayed home to take care of their ailing parents, their sister Masha (Weaver) has been gallivanting around the world as a successful actress and movie star, leaving Vanya and Sonia to feel trapped and regretful. Their soothsayer/cleaning woman Cassandra (Grant) keeps warning them about terrible things in the future, which include a sudden visit from Masha and her twenty-something boy toy Spike (Magnussen).
The creative team includes set designer David Korins, costume designer Emily Rebholz, lighting designer Justin Townsend, composer of original music and sound designer Mark Bennett, casting director Daniel Swee and production stage manager Cheryl Mintz. Visit LCT.org.
