Atlantis, a new musical with book, music and lyrics by Matthew Lee Robinson, has an industry-only reading March 10 in New York City under the direction of Newsies Tony winner Christopher Gattelli.

Greg Schaffert (Peter and the Starcatcher) produces the reading with musical direction by Lily Ling (Off-Broadway’s John & Jen). Mark Schneider (Beautiful) is the reading’s associate director.

Atlantis, according to press notes, “charts the week leading up to the destruction of the ancient mythological kingdom.”

The work was most recently developed at the 2015 Canadian Music Theatre Project at Sheridan College, Toronto. Previous readings of Atlantis have involved dramaturgical input from Stephen Schwartz and representatives from Disney Theatrical Productions, Manhattan Theatre Club and Ambassador Theatre Group.

Composer, lyricist and performer Robinson has won the UTAS Stephen Schwartz Songwriting Award, written songs for the Emmy-nominated television series Dance Academy, appeared as a vocal coach on the reality television series The Singing Office, performed three lead roles for Opera Australia at the Sydney Opera House and presented his original works in concert at Lincoln Center, Ars Nova and the 2016 iTheatrics Junior Theater Festival in Atlanta.
