The Broadway revival of Chicago gets a new razzle dazzler April 12, when Tony Award-winner Chuck Cooper, once of The Life, takes over the role of Billy Flynn.
Cooper won the 1996 Tony for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for playing soulful, corrupt Memphis in Cy Coleman and Ira Gasman's. Now he's the slick, corrupt criminal lawyer representing murderesses in the musical comedy by John Kander, Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse. Clarke Peters played Billy to April 8.
Cooper joins Belle Calaway, Deidre Goodwin, P.J. Benjamin, Marcia Lewis and R. Bean at the Shubert Theatre. This is the Tony Award-winning revival's fifth year on Broadway.
Cooper's Broadway credits include Passion, Someone to Watch Over Me, Rumors, Amen Corner and Getting Away With Murder.
Walter Bobbie directed Chicago and Ann Reinking choreographed, "in the style of" original director-choreographer Bob Fosse. For ticket information, call (212) 239-6200.
