A federal judge awarded Cicely Tyson $607,000 plus interest from Liz Taylor Sept. 18 in a dispute dating back to 1983 when Tyson was starring in Broadway's The Corn in Green, which Taylor co-produced.Taylor's company fired Tyson from the production when she missed a performance to attend a tribute to her husband, the late Miles Davis. Tyson claimed she was "improperly terminated" from the engagement.
The show had gotten negative reviews and wound up closing after 32 performances at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. Standby Kristin Linklater played the role of Miss Moffat for the final four performances.
Taylor's lawyer was reported as saying the award will likely be appealed.
