Think you can shine in Cirque Du Soleil, the French-Canadian, all performer circus? You'll get your chance Feb. 14-Feb. 17 when the company will hold auditions in New York for athletes (gymnasts), acrobats, dancers (classical/modern), character actors (a la Chaplin & Groucho) and versatile singers in the worldbeat/pop vein. If you want to audition, send a resume, photo and (singers only) audiotape before Feb. 7 to: Cirque Du Soleil, Casting Department, 8400 2nd Ave., Montreal, Quebec, Canada H1Z4M6. Their Auditions Info-line number is (514)722-5255, and you can also reach the company at (514) 722-3692 or by e-mail at [email protected]. Only selected candidates will be called to audition at venues to be announced at that time.
More than 80 percent of the company's performers are found through auditions, and because Cirque Du Soleil has grown so large, over 300 new artists are sought. Not only is the troupe currently staging "Quidam" in Santa Monica (it'll come to NY within 18 months, says production spokesperson Marc Thibodeau) and "Mystere" in Las Vegas, but they're creating a second Vegas production ("a watershow"), two shows geared towards Europe, and developing a piece for Florida's Disneyworld.
