Cirque du Soleil's Saltimbanco, which broke box-office records at the Royal Albert Hall when premiered there in 1996, will return later for a short season, Jan. 7-26, 2003.
Since its world premiere in 1992, over five million spectators worldwide have been stunned by the extraordinary performance art event that combines the traditions of carnival and commedia dell'arte.
Saltimbanco is, appropriately, Italian for street artist, and the show is a fusion of performance art, theatre and circus, combined with the sort of light and sound effects more readily associated with rock concerts.
Over 50 performers create an internationally flavored series of routines that range from ballet to balancing acts and trapeze in a dazzling display that seems to defy the laws of gravity.
