Officially, according to the Feb. 12 announcement, "The rehearsal period at the theatre has been extended to integrate new performance elements."
This is the second change of the New York start date for the show that melds vaudeville, circus and musical theatre elements. The Beacon, at 2124 Broadway, is primarily used as a concert venue.
David Shiner (star and co-creator of the Tony Award-winning Fool Moon) remains Banana Shpeel's creator, writer and director.
Banana Shpeel is billed as "a roller coaster mix of styles that blends intense choreography, crazy comedy and distinctive acrobatic acts. The show offers a diverse spectrum of performances including tap, hip-hop and eccentric dance, slapstick comedy and Cirque du Soleil acrobatic acts — plus madcap characters spreading chaos in all directions."
An official opening night date has not been announced. Those who purchased tickets for performances between Feb. 25 and March 14 will be offered tickets to another performance of their choice based on availability.
For ticket-holders who are affected by this change, contact customer service at [email protected] or call (800) 653-8000 and have the original Ticketmaster order number available.
