The Civil War 's assault on U.S. record stores -- both Union and Confederate -- continues.
The first of three planned CDs connected to the Frank Wildhorn musical, titled "The Nashville Sessions," was released Nov. 3. Now comes "The Concept Album," a double-CD extravaganza featuring artists from several branches of music (Hootie and the Blowfish, Betty Buckley, Dr. John, Amy Grant, Patti LaBelle) singing selections from the musical, as well as reading by the likes of Maya Angelou and Danny Glover. The recording will be in stores Jan. 5, 1999.

The CD now available, titled "The Nashville Sessions," contains tracks by a variety of country-western artists. Last, but not least, comes the original cast album of Civil War. That record will not be released until after the show's Apr. 8, 1999 Broadway opening, according to publicist Jill Siegal.
