"Glee" stars and Broadway performers Darren Criss (How to Succeed…) and Jenna Ushkowitz (Spring Awakening) cover Carly Rae Jepsen's summer hit "Call Me Maybe" on the premiere episode. They are joined by Alex Newell (Unique) and Heather Morris (Brittany).

Other songs featured in "The New Rachel" include a mashup of Lady Gaga's "Americano" and Jennifer Lopez's "Dance Again," performed by recurring guest star Kate Hudson, who plays Cassandra, a challenging professor at the fictional New York Academy of Dramatic Arts; The Fray's "Never Say Never," performed by new cast member Jacob Artist (Jake); Barbra Streisand's version of Billy Joel's "New York State of Mind," performed by Michele (Rachel) and new cast member Melissa Benoist (Marley); Imagine Dragon's "It's Time," performed by Criss (Blaine); and Adele's "Chasing Pavements."

Here's how the premiere is described: "In the season premiere episode, the members of New Directions compete amongst themselves to become the next star of the glee club. During open auditions, a fresh crop of students is introduced, including Marley (Benoist) and Jake Puckerman (Artist), Puck's half-brother. Meanwhile, Rachel (Michele) has a rocky start at NYADA and struggles to please her demanding dance teacher, Cassie (Hudson). She also meets Brody (Dean Geyer), a handsome upperclassman."

Aside from Hudson, Benoist and Artist, the fourth season will also welcome "Glee Project" winner Blake Jenner, Sarah Jessica Parker (Once Upon a Mattress), Becca Tobin (Rock of Ages) and Dean Geyer.
