CHICAGO -- On March 16 the Goodman Theatre mainstage will for the first time present a work by Pearl Cleage, the Atlanta-based playwright whose exciting saga Flyin' West was a local hit in 1996 at Onyx Theatre. Blues for an Alabama Sky, set at a time when the Harlem Renaissance was fading into the Great Depression, depicts four close friends and the difficult times that threaten to harden them.

Chuck Smith will direct Cleage's character study, one of several by the playwright that premiered at Atlanta's Alliance Theatre.
