Classic Arts News Cleveland Orchestra to Return to the Proms The Cleveland Orchestra will give two concerts at the BBC Proms in August, the orchestra announced.
The concerts, part of a previously announced tour of Europe, will mark the orchestra's first Proms appearances since 1994, and its fifth appearance there overall.

Last year, the orchestra was scheduled to appear, but the concerts were canceled because of a dispute with the BBC over Internet broadcast rights. As a result, for the first time in decades, no American orchestra performed at the Proms.

The European tour, to take place August 25-31, will also include three concerts at the Lucerne Festival and a stop in Ludwigsburg, Germany. At Lucerne, the orchestra will give the world premiere of Chen Yi's Si Ji (Four Seasons), the latest work commissioned in a partnership between the orchestra, the festival, Carnegie Hall, and the Roche corporation.

The tour repertoire will also include works by Beethoven, Bart‹k, Ravel, Mahler, and Schubert.
