Close to You, Retitled Version of Off-Broadway's What's It All About?, to Transfer to West End | Playbill

News Close to You, Retitled Version of Off-Broadway's What's It All About?, to Transfer to West End Close to You - Bacharach Reimagined, a retitled version of What's It All About? that completes its debut London run at the Menier Chocolate Factory Sept. 5, is to transfer to the West End's Criterion Theatre, beginning performances Oct. 3, prior to an official opening Oct. 15, for a run that is initially booking through Jan. 10, 2016.

Directed by Olivier Award-winning and three-time Tony nominee Steven Hoggett (Once, Rocky, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time), the cast of singer-musicians is led by Kyle Riabko, who co-conceived the show and has done the new, yet faithful re-interpretations of over 30 of Bacharach's classics.

These include such standards as "Alfie," "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head," "What the World Needs Now Is Love," "I Say a Little Prayer," "Walk on By," "A House Is Not a Home," "That's What Friends Are For," "Close to You," "(There’s) Always Something There to Remind Me," "The Look of Love," "What’s New Pussycat?," "Do You Know the Way to San Jose?" and others.

Bacharach and David wrote the score to the 1968 Broadway musical Promises, Promises.

After being introduced to Bacharach at a Los Angeles recording studio, Riabko created a series of demos, reinterpreting his songs. Over the ensuing months, he took the demos to Bacharach who gave his blessing to the show, of which he has said, "It’s brilliant. Kyle has done something truly unique with my music. I loved it!"

Originally presented at New York Theatre Workshop in 2013, it has run at the Menier Chocolate Factory from July 3-Sept. 5. The New York Theater Workshop / Menier Chocolate Factory production of Close to You is presented in the West End by David Lane Seltzer for Entertainment 360, the producing arm of Management 360, also responsible for the TV series "Game of Thrones."

Set design is by Christine Jones and Brett Banakis, and costume design is by Matthew Wright, with lighting by Tim Lutkin and sound by Richard Brooker.
