The board at Theatre Passe Muraille, one of Toronto's oldest alternative theatres, has pulled a coup and fired its artistic producer Susan Serran. Replacing Serran as acting artistic director is Layne Coleman, an actor/director closely associated with the theatre over many years both in an artistic and board capacity. He leads Passe Muraille into its 30th anniversary season. In recent years, the theatre has faced a crippling deficit and uncertain future, which is why the board stated it also dissolved the position of associate artist, held by Colin Taylor, artistic director of Theatre WUM, Toronto's leading black theatre company.
