Alongside Mastrantonio will be Helen Baker, Gillian Bevan, Martyn Ellis, Daniel Evans, Julian Ovenden, Gary Raymond, Sara Annis, Hattie Bayton, David Birrell, John Conroy, Elizabeth Cooper-Gee, Paul Hazel, David Lucas, Graham Macduff, Joseph Noble and Sevan Stephan. Grand Hotel will play through Feb. 12, 2005.
Baker was last seen in the West End as Dorothy in Thoroughly Modern Millie. Evans has previously appeared at the Donmar in Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along, a show which also featured Ovenden.
The Tony Award-winning musical by Luther Davis and the Kismet team of Robert Wright and George Forrest features additional music and lyrics by Tony Award winner Maury Yeston. Donmar boss Michael Grandage will direct, with Christopher Oram’s designs and lighting design from Hugh Vanstone. Choreography will be by Matthew Bourne regular (most famously as the Swan in Bourne’s award-winning Swan Lake) Adam Cooper, with Jae Alexander as musical director and Terry Jardine as sound designer.
Grand Hotel began previews at the Martin Beck Theatre Oct. 16, 1989, later transferring to the Gershwin Theatre. The musical played a total of 31 previews and 1,017 regular performances. Directed and choreographed by Tommy Tune, the original cast featured David Carroll, Karen Akers, Jane Krakowski, Michael Jeter and Liliane Montevecchi.
