James Macdonald, who staged the 2009 London premiere of Cock at the Royal Court Theatre, returns to helm the Off-Broadway production that will officially open May 17.
The 80-minute production will feature Cory Michael Smith (The Shaggs, The Whale) in the central role of John, a man who takes a break from his boyfriend only to encounter a woman who changes his life.
The cast also includes Jason Butler Harner (Through A Glass Darkly "Alcatra") as M, Amanda Quaid (The Illusion, Equus) as W and Cotter Smith (Next Fall, An American Daughter) as F.
Cock won the 2010 Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in An Affiliate Theatre. Stuart Thompson (Death of a Salesman, Jerusalem) and Jean Doumanian (Our Town, Tribes), along with the Royal Court Theatre, produce the American premiere.
Here's how Cock is billed: "When John and his boyfriend take a break, the last thing he expects is to suddenly meet the woman of his dreams. Now he has a big choice to make."
Bartlett's 13 premiered at the National Theatre last October. His plays also include Earthquakes in London, Love Love Love, Artefacts, Contradictions and My Child.
