With Broadway announcing its highest grosses on record and ticket prices reaching new heights (Young Frankenstein will charge $450 for premier seats), the stagehands Local 1 union is seeking increased wages and benefits for its members.

Broadway producers counter that increased grosses don't necessarily mean more profits. The League also stated that only one in five shows recoups its investment.

On the flip side, the League is looking to gain further control over the amount of crew needed on any given production, which is currently designated by the size of the theatre and decided upon by Local 1. In addition, the Post adds, producers are looking to curtail the costs of the $1.5 million "load-in" process for scenery of a new production.

According to the Post, should talks between the two parties prove fruitless, Local 1 may strike during Broadway's bustling Thanksgiving week, which could wreak havoc on the theatrical community and threaten a significant loss of revenue during a week that many productions bank on.

The musician's strike in 2003 cost New York City and the theatrical community upwards of two million dollars a day, the Post says.
