Waiting in the Wings will close on Broadway May 28. The announcement comes only shortly after it was revealed that star Lauren Bacall would leave the show on July 2. Producers reported dismal sales figures for June.

Waiting in the Wings first opened on Broadway Dec. 16 at the Walter Kerr Theatre. The arrival of A Moon for the Misbegotten forced the play to pack up and move to the Eugene O'Neill, where it began performances on Feb. 17.

The production was the last theatrical venture of legendary producer Alexander Cohen, who died on April 22. Since then, Cohen's fellow Wings producers Chase Mishkin, Max Cooper, Leonard Soloway and Steven M. Levy have taken up the reins of the show, reportedly making various changes, including a switch of publicist.

Bacall plays Lotta Bainbridge, newest resident at "The Wings," a retirement home for actresses, and former fierce rival to Rosemary Harris' May Davenport. Also in the cast are Barnard Hughes, Elizabeth Wilson, Patricia Conolly, Dana Ivey, Rosemary Murphy, Simon Jones, Crista Moore, Helen Stenborg, Victoria Boothby, Bette Henritze, Helena Carroll, Amelia Campbell, Anthony Cummings, Geddeth Smith and Collin Johnson.
