News CSA Offers Free Workshop for Actors with Disabilities Today The Casting Society of America (CSA), in partnership with the Alliance for Inclusion in the Arts, kicks off its series of free workshops for actors with disabilities with The Business of Acting 101 Feb. 2.

The classes are part of the Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion in Casting Initiative. The initiative, which began in September, has been designed to effect change in how actors from underrepresented communities are granted access to job opportunities.

The workshops offered are outlined below:

Feb. 2: The Business of Acting 101 at the Actors’ Equity Building in New York, 165 W. 46th Street entrance, 14th Floor.

March 19: On-Camera Audition Technique, Commercial Audition Technique, Theatre Audition Technique and Musical Theatre Audition Technique at Telsey + Co., 311 W. 43rd Street, 10th Floor, New York. Time slots are limited to 15 people per class.

Performers interested in attending should RSVP to [email protected] with their name, which class they would like to attend, any accommodations needed (ASL interpretation, advance access to material, wheelchair access, etc.) and which time slot they would prefer: 10 AM-1 PM or 2 PM-5 PM.  According to CSA, the goal of these workshops is to "level the playing field for performers with disabilities" and for "casting directors and their associates to continue to deepen their knowledge of this untapped pool of talent."

Inclusion in the Arts promotes and advocates for the full inclusion of artists of color and disabled performers in theatre, film, television and related media. For more information visit inclusioninthearts.org.
