Tony winner Cynthia Erivo has added yet another film role to her growing list of upcoming projects. The Color Purple star has joined the cast of Doug Liman’s science fiction feature Chaos Walking, set to premiere March 1, 2019.
Based on Patrick Ness' book of the same name, the film takes place in the dystopian New World after a germ kills off all women, and survivors can hear each other's thoughts through a stream known as "The Noise." According to The Hollywood Reporter, Erivo will play Hildy, the leader of a peaceful settlement in this new era.
Erivo joins a cast that includes Daisy Ridley, Tom Holland, Nick Jonas, David Oyelowo, Demián Bichir, Mads Mikkelsen, and Kurt Sutter.
Ness has adapted his book for the screen alongside Charlie Kaufman, John Lee Hancock, and Chris Ford.
The news of Erivo's casting comes just one week after it was revealed she would also star in Bad Times at the El Royale, playing a struggling singer. She is also a part of the starry ensemble cast of the upcoming Widows and is attached to play Harriet Tubman in the upcoming biopic Harriet.
