News Cynthia Nixon-Helmed Steve Begins Performances Tonight Off-Broadway Performances begin Nov. 3 for the world premiere of Mark Gerrard’s Steve, directed by Emmy and Tony winner Cynthia Nixon. Presented by The New Group, the cast of the new comedy includes Malcolm Gets, Mario Cantone and Matt McGrath.

The Off-Broadway engagement will run through Dec. 27 with an official opening night slated for Nov. 18. The cast also features Ashlie Atkinson, Jerry Dixon and Francisco Pryor Garat. Here's how the show is billed: "As Steven (McGrath), a failed Broadway chorus boy turned stay-at-home dad, celebrates yet another birthday, he finds himself filled with fear and uncertainty. Is Stephen (Gets), his partner of 14 years, cheating on him? Why is one of his best friends (Cantone) dying of cancer? And what, exactly, has he done with his life? A portrait of a group of longtime, theater-loving friends as they navigate the many facets of midlife and mortality."

The production features scenic design by Allen Moyer, costume design by Tom Broecker, lighting design by Eric Southern, sound design by David Van Tieghem and projection design by Olivia Sebesky. Music coordinator is Seth Rudetsky. Valerie A. Peterson is the production stage manager. Casting is by Judy Henderson, CSA.
