News Daily, Schultz and Amdent Set for The Subject Was Roses Off-Broadway Drama Desk Award winner Dan Daily, Carol Schultz and Matthew Amendt will portray a Bronx family in the Pearl Theatre Company production of Frank D. Gilroy’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play The Subject Was Roses.

Actress and director Amy Wright, who appeared on Broadway in The Fifth of July and Noises Off, as well as Off-Broadway in Mrs. Klein with Uta Hagen, will direct the production that begins previews April 9. Opening is April 18 at New York City Center Stage II.

Daily (The Tenth Man, Misalliance, The Master Builder) will appear as John Cleary, with Schultz (Vieux Carre, The Importance of Being Earnest) as Nettie Cleary and Amendt (The Great Gatsby at the Guthrie) as Timmy Cleary.

"Set in the Bronx in 1946, The Subject Was Roses," according to the Pearl, "tells the story of John and Nettie Cleary welcoming their son, Timmy, home from World War II. In the three days after his return, Timmy attempts to heal the wounds in his parents’ marriage, and as a result they discover the true depth of their flaws, regrets, and love."

The creative team includes Harry Feiner (scenic design), Barbara A. Bell (costume design), Stephen Petrilli (lighting design), Jane Shaw (sound design) and Rod Kinter (fight director).
