News Dancap's Toronto Subscription Season Has In the Heights, Beauty and the Beast, a Fresh Shrek and a Hal Prince Bonus Toronto producer-presenter Aubrey Dan announced the 2012 Broadway subscription series for his Canadian venues on Oct. 17. The previously announced Broadway-bound world premiere of Prince of Broadway, a retrospective of the work of director-producer Harold Prince, will bow in summer 2012 as a special bonus attraction to the series.

Dancap is the lead producer of Prince of Broadway, directed by multiple Tony Award winner Prince with co-direction and choreography by Tony winner Susan Stroman (The Producers). The book is by Tony nominee David Thompson (The Scottsboro Boys). Vocal and dance arrangements are by Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown (Parade, The Last Five Years). The Dancap 2012 series will launch with the first engagement of the North American tour of Green Day's American Idiot. The Toronto Star reported that Canadian actor Jake Epstein will play Will. Complete casting has not yet been announced for the rock opera about three slacker pals who take differing paths in post-9/11 America. Michael Mayer co-wrote and directs. The songs are by Billie Joe Armstrong (who co-wrote the book with Mayer) and Green Day. Performance begin Dec. 28, 2011, and play to Jan. 15, 2012, at Toronto Centre for the Arts.

The season also includes visits by tours of In the Heights (Feb. 7-19, 2012, Toronto Centre for the Arts); West Side Story (May 8-June 3, 2012, Toronto Centre for the Arts); Shrek the Musical, Disney's Beauty and the Beast and Million Dollar Quartet (July 20-29, 2012, Toronto Centre for the Arts).

Another bonus show, A Christmas Story, the Musical, in December 2012 at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts, was also announced.

The new production of Shrek the Musical features a book and lyrics by Pulitzer Prize winner David Lindsay-Abaire, music by Olivier Award winner Jeanine Tesori and direction by Stephen Sposito. Dancap presents the postmodern fairy-tale show March 13-18, 2012, at Place des Arts, Montreal, and March 20-April 1 at the Toronto Centre for the Arts. Beauty and the Beast will launch the Dancap 2012 Summer Series July 3-22, 2012, at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts in July. The original creators of the Broadway production (director Rob Roth, choreographer Matt West, ostume designer Ann Hould-Ward) reunite for this new touring production.

Dancap also announced that it will extend its theatrical reach in 2012 with a Western Canadian tour of Jersey Boys.
