News "Dancing with the Stars" Winner Julianne Hough Will Join Tom Cruise in "Rock of Ages" Film Variety reports that Ballroom dancer, actress and country music singer Julianne Hough, best known as a two-time winner of "Dancing with the Stars," is in final negotiations to join Oscar nominee Tom Cruise in the upcoming Warner Bros./New Line feature film Rock of Ages, based on the hit Broadway musical of the same name.

The industry paper also reports that Mary J. Blige will be part of the movie musical, which is scheduled to begin filming in Florida May 19.

Adam Shankman, who directed and choreographed the film adaptation of Hairspray, will direct Rock of Ages' big-screen premiere.

The musical's book writer, Chris D'Arienzo, has penned the screenplay for the film with revisions by Shankman and Justin Theroux; it will be produced by Rock of Ages Broadway producers Carl Levin, Matthew Weaver and Scott Prisand, with Tobey Maguire and Jennifer Gibgot. Executive producers are Garrett Grant, Janet Billig and Hillary Weaver.

Rock of Ages, which uses hits from the 1980s as its score, premiered Off-Broadway at New World Stages in October 2008. The musical transferred to the Brooks Atkinson Theatre on Broadway in March 2009, earning five Tony nominations including Best Musical, Best Direction, and Best Actor for Constantine Maroulis. The production will reopen March 24 at the Helen Hayes Theatre.
