Directed by Sheryl Kaller, the workshop production plays April 8, April 9, April 12-15 and April 17-21 at 7 PM.

There is no official opening night, and the work is not open to review.

"At the start of the show, something has happened to Mr. Joy, a Chinese-American who has run a shoe-repair shop in Harlem for decades," according to production notes. "Through Beaty's signature style of multi-character storytelling, Mr. Joy's customers and others discover the nature of the incident, and realize the impact he has had on their lives and their changing community."

Mr. Joy, a work in progress, has lighting by Michael Gilliam, original music and sound by Lindsay Jones and projections by Josh Lehrer.

Daniel Beaty is the award-winning writer and performer of Emergency! and Through the Night, among others.

Tickets, priced at $20, are available at the Lincoln Center Theater box office, at telecharge.com or by visiting lct3.org.
