News Daniel Breaker Is A Doctor in Spite of Himself at the Intiman Beginning Sept. 3 Molière's A Doctor in Spite of Himself, starring Tony Award nominee Daniel Breaker, begins performances Sept. 3 at the Intiman Theatre.

Christopher Bayes and Steven Epp have co-adapted the classic, which will officially open Sept. 12. Bayes also directs the production that will run through Oct. 10.

Breaker (Passing Strange, Shrek) stars as Sganarelle in a cast that also features Epp, Renata Friedman, Allen Gilmore, Ashley Marshall, Don Darryl Rivera and Chelsey Rives. Musicians Greg C. Powers and Robertson Witmer complete the ensemble.

Molière's A Doctor in Spite of Himself has scenic design by Narelle Sissons, costume design by Elizabeth Caitlin Ward, lighting design by Greg Sullivan and original carnival-style music and sound design by Aaron Halva.

Here's how the Intiman bills the work: "Playing doctor takes on a whole new meaning in Molière’s bawdy comedy, which reaches increasingly over-the-top levels of comic pandemonium after a marital squabble between husband and wife Sganarelle and Martine escalates. The spirited wife decides to get revenge on her scoundrel of husband by convincing the town that he’s the best doctor around and can cure any ailment, but he turns the tables on her—and everyone else—with his own definition of 'in sickness and in health.'"
