Daniel Reichard, who originated the role of Bob Gaudio in Broadway’s Jersey Boys, celebrates the joys of summer with his cabaret show Mr. Blue Sky August 14 at Birdland Jazz Club in Manhattan

Reichard, who founded the vocal group The Midtown Men, says the 7 PM show will draw on the music he heard summers when he was growing up, including the songs of Ray Charles, Fleetwood Mac, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Paul Simon, plus the works of Henry Mancini, Adele, and Broadway songwriter Leonard Bernstein.

Reichard said, “I was born on a hot June evening, and raised the eighth of nine children, so there were always a lot of different kinds of music playing, especially during the summer months. This show is going to be nostalgic in that way, presenting songs I’ve enjoyed since I was a child and others that I have grown to understand more deeply as an adult. Beyond the music, I am exploring the broad range of experiences and emotions that summers can bring.”

Reichard will be joined by guest performers Patrick McCollum, Christopher Spaulding, Ben Knox, Ben Gettinger, Joey Dudding, and Rob Eggleston.

He will share his songs and personal stories backed by a band consisting of David Cinquegrana (guitar), Brian Holtz (bass), Alex Wyatt (drums), Jason Yarcho (piano), Chris Smucker (reeds), and cellist Elad Kabilio.

The concert is presented as part of the weekly Broadway at Birdland series at 315 West 44th Street near Times Square. There is a $40 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum per person. Tickets can be ordered at Birdlandjazz.com.
