News Darden, Calvert, Buster and More Set for Free Reading of Hampton's Checking In A free reading of Brian Hampton's Checking In will be presented Jan. 19 at the Blackbird Studio Theatre in Manhattan.

The 7 PM reading will feature the talents of playwright Hampton as Ben, Allie Darden as Brooke, Carter Calvert (Ain't Nothin' But the Blues) as Penny and Natalie Buster (Sessions) as Liz with Beverly Lauchner as Summer and Jennifer Hyman Zimmerman as Catherine. Checking In, according to press notes, is the story of "six mixed-matched friends from Virginia now struggling to make their way in the world. Reuniting for a weekend in Atlantic City, they rehash the past and catch up on the present. But, when they discover one of them has been hiding a shocking reality, her reasons send them into a tailspin — questioning whether there's more to their bond than a case of beer, a carton of cigarettes, and a room full of high school nostalgia."

Checking In received its first developmental reading at the Creative Center at the Manhattan Theatre Club and then played an acclaimed run at the Actors Guild of Lexington in Lexington, KY.

The Blackbird Studio Theatre is located in Manhattan at 347 West 36th Street (between 8th and 9th Avenues), 13th Floor. For reservations for the free reading visit www.brianhampton.net or e-mail [email protected].
