CHICAGO -- Jerker, the sturdy gay love drama, returns to the Bailiwick Repertory Mar. 15 in a 10th anniversary production. The play, written by Robert Chesley, premiered in 1988 and over the past decade has had three productions at the Bailiwick.
The current revival marks the return of Darren Stephens to the role he inaugurated here, while Canadian actor Steve Leonetti plays the other half of this unique love connection.
A time capsule of San Francisco circa 1985 (including the inevitable nudity), the play depicts male lovers who touch each other only through phone calls, as well as a besieged subculture reeling from disapproval and grief.
The current production will be done (for the first time) without an intermission per the playwright's original request.
